The Coaching kid

Preparing for IIT or GATE is now a common job for almost all the youngsters of India. Instead of having any proper idea about the job scenario parents are admitting their children in coaching classes. From an office peon to a rich business everyone is ready to invest in these classes. Anyhow they arrange money and send their lovely children to different cities for these classes. They think that if his child can get 10 CGPA in the boards then how can any IIT or NIT can refuse to admit them. So are they wrong? or they are right? and if they are right then who is responsible for the failure of their child in this competitive world?

As statics says almost 13,56,805  have appeared for JEE mains this year out of which only the top 150000 scorers of JEE Main stand eligible for JEE Advanced test for seats in 16 IITs and ISM Dhanbad. The cutoff mark for general ranges between 110-130 normally. Similarly A total of 10,33,625 candidates have registered for GATE 2014 and on the qualified marks criterion, 1,49,694 (16.84%) candidates  have qualified. So why there is this much lag in the data. Aren't a 10 CGPA boy compatible enough to qualify for an even an entrance?

Actually it's not the candidate's fault too. From the morning alarm alarm to the night show on radio Mirchi he is there consistently solving the problem sheets. He has to keep himself resonating with all the teachers of the institute. Has to clear all his doubts in the doubt class and has to attend all the classes even if everything is just passing over his head. He has to perform in the Sunday test even after eating the delicious khichdi  in his mess on Saturday night. And after all these he has to face a a list of disastrous results of the test series.

Life of these students gets quite meshed up. Just a years back he has answers for all his success and failures. He was a topper at his school. Everyone knows him there. His parents are quite satisfied with his results. He was the hero in his circle. But suddenly his life takes a turn. And a hero becomes a zero. A bunch of 300-500 heroes in his class are waiting for him to make him feel zero. All the positivism he has collected till now starts escaping.

No one is here to praise him for his quick answers because there are 200 hands already up in the air. The guy sitting next to him is not interested in telling him that why in the fourth step the teacher has taken a log in the RHS. He might face a tough or silly look if he even try to ask them. And who has the guts to go and ask this silly question to the top most faculty of India? The question gets automatically buried inside his mind.

Day by day the pressure increases and those who can't survive in the pressure near black boards gets automatically shifted to the last rows. But a few are still there who fight for their survival. These people have a 100% attendance in the class. They prepare the best notes and has detailed summary of everything going on. They try the assignments every time. They feel too proud to solve Irodove and Morrison Boyd.

Even if they don't understand the language of the questions they buy the brand new book and show it off in front of his non coaching colleagues. A few of them even start following different toppers and their activities. They start roaming around him. Starts to follow his study routines leaving their own qualities and capabilities. They just want to be selected at any cost.

On the other hand a few bunch of heroes found different ways to show there heroism. Some starts practising NFS most wanted and Counter strike in cyber cafes whereas a few starts exploring the Love world. Spending nights in cyber cafes or with their mobiles becomes the most usual activities. Day by day they start unlocking the levels of their game and locking their practise sheets in their cupboards. Their attendance still remains 100% but the register changes.

Anyhow everyone completes his course and after the whole course it comes the
exam time. His parents who have invested lakhs in his studies starts expecting from his results. His non coaching friends and relatives starts questioning him on his preparations. After-all they have a reason for that. A topper who is receiving a coaching in the finest coaching classes of India must be in the top ranker according to them.

Under all these performance and academic pressure when the efficiency of the students becomes almost zero he faces the exams. He faces the question paper having questions from the renowned frustrated professors all over the country. The paper which barely any one of them can solve in three hours is presented in his exam as a symbol of excellence. As if its the level of the paper that decides the level of the institution you are appearing for. He has to attempt a paper which is mend not for selection but for elemination.

At last result got declared. Now he will get selected if he is in top 16% of the students appeared (as per the 2014 data). His chances of success also depends on his caste category. He came to know that he might be selected if he was from an OBC or SC category. A few of his friends got selected even after scoring less than him.

So the final question is who's wrong ? Is it the student section, the academics or the huge competition which is responsible for this? Shouldn't the parents expect from their child? Were he at a right place at the right time? for what he is paying for ? is that the night cold coffeies or his first crush who are responsible? and the last one is all these this much necessary?

Your answers can be pretty simple and conventional. But are they practical too? and if not what then what will be a practical one?....

Thank You
